The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration recently held their annual Voice Awards, honoring a host of consumer and family leaders and television and film professionals who educate the public about behavioral health.
Actress Kristen Bell and her husband, actor Dax Shepard, were among the recipients. Both have been strong advocates for mental health and substance abuse awareness, speaking out about their personal experiences and encouraging others to join the conversation.
Bell stated that at a young age, her mother emphasized the importance of seeking help without feeling ashamed. “You do better in the gym with a trainer; you don’t figure out how to cook without reading a recipe. Therapy is not something to be embarrassed about.”
