Genomind Supports Neuroscience Education Institute (NEI) With Grant To Further Knowledge Of Personalized Medicine Among Health Professionals

CHALFONT, PA – May 24, 2012 – Genomind, LLC. has awarded an education grant to the Neuroscience Education Institute (NEI) to further knowledge of personalized medicine among mental health professionals. The Genomind grant will support the development of NEI’s new Mixed Media Activity (MMA) entitled “Getting Personal: The Current Status of Genotyping in Psychiatry.”

Designed to explore the clinical applicability of genetic testing in psychiatry, the MMA will fill a critical education gap by helping clinicians integrate the principles of personalized medicine into practice. “Realizing the promise of personalized medicine requires a sustained commitment to advancing our understanding of underlying genetic and environmental bases of human disease,” said Dr. Stephen M. Stahl, Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and member of Genomind’s Scientific Advisory Board. “We are always looking at ways to translate these findings to real world medical products and practice.”

Developed to parallel a live NEI lecture, the MMA uses a dynamic mix of interactive cases and faculty-led presentations to engage participants and maintain their attention. A novel audience response tool provides the “best response” after a participant answers each question. Providing information on answers motivates participants and enables better retention of information.

The MMA program is self-directed, giving clinicians the freedom to start and stop the program at their convenience and complete their continuing medical education (CME) at their own pace.

“Genomind will continue to support educational initiatives for institutions like NEI, to further the potential application of genotyping to personalized treatment in psychiatry,” said Jay Lombard, DO, Chief Scientific Officer and Medical Director for Genomind.
