A Breakthrough in Personalized Wellness: Mindful DNA® Professional Genetic Testing

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. — March 6, 2018 — What if you could know actions you could take that would help you achieve better health, now and in the future? And what if they involved holistic interventions that contribute to health and wellness? These questions are at the heart of Mindful DNA, a new genetic test from Genomind.

Genomind is proud to announce the availability of Mindful DNA to healthcare providers looking for genetic guidance on lifestyle, diet, and/or nutritional supplement decisions to improve the overall health and wellbeing of their patients. The test provides evidence-based, personalized, actionable information that helps patients adjust their lifestyle, diet, habits and activities in order to improve their overall quality of life.

Genomind, which has conducted over 137,000 genetic tests for patients around the world, developed Mindful DNA based on Genomind’s expertise in brain health and belief in the importance of the mind-body connection. Genomind has identified key genes that work together to affect health and organized them into six groups, or “domains.” Two of the important domains examined by the test are described below.

Mindful DNA and Sleep

Approximately 60 million Americans each year are affected by a sleep disorder. Mindful DNA’s test report specifies holistic steps a patient can take in collaboration with a healthcare provider to achieve better health if they possess genetic variants that may interfere with their ability to maintain a regular cycle of activity and rest, crucial for rebuilding and repairing the body. For example, based on recommendations provided by Mindful DNA, their clinician may suggest therapies to improve nerve signaling or circadian rhythm that may result in improved sleep quality. These may help improve overall wellbeing and lower the risk of linked health issues, such as cardiovascular events.

Mindful DNA and Stress & Emotional Wellbeing

A recent poll by the American Psychological Association found that Americans were more likely to report feeling the effects of stress in 2017 than they did in the prior year. Certain genetic variations may predispose individuals to anxiety, depression, impaired cognition and lack of resilience. Identifying other risk factors, such as nutritional deficiencies that may adversely affect overall wellness, can help providers create a treatment plan to help make up for these health impacts and improve wellbeing. One example that their clinician may recommend is that a patient take up or increase meditation, yoga, progressive muscle relaxation, tai chi or other forms of physical exercise to ameliorate their stress response.

The Test Covers 32 Genes

The test analyzes variations in 32 key genes in six domains of health. In addition to Sleep and Stress & Emotional Wellbeing, the other domains are: Cognition & Mental Acuity; Cardiometabolic; Gastrointestinal (GI) & Immune; and Inflammation.

“Mindful DNA makes connections so everyone can better understand their personalized biology and what they can do to help achieve a better state of mind,” says Dr. Jay Lombard, Co-founder, Chief Scientific Officer and Medical Director, Genomind. “This is important information for people who are motivated to care for themselves proactively and are looking for healthy, non-pharmacological alternatives that they can trust. The recommendations provided by Mindful DNA are based upon strong, published scientific data showing that they may positively affect key biological pathways and improve overall health.”

“Just living longer is no longer the only measure of health — people want to age and still enjoy the full spectrum of everything that life offers. This requires proactive thinking and behaviors that will allow for such enjoyment. I believe Mindful DNA can be an integral part of efforts to improve health and wellness,” says Rudolph Tanzi, PhD, Vice-Chair of Neurology, Massachusetts General Hospital and a member of Genomind’s Scientific Advisory Board.

Mindful DNA can identify genetic variations that can help providers deliver deeply personalized, integrative care to every patient. It can also empower patients to see their health holistically and take action to improve it. Testing is simple and quick. Sample collection is done by cheek swab, and results are returned to the ordering clinician in 10 days or less.

About Mindful DNA

Mindful DNA is a genetic test used by clinicians that helps guide lifestyle, diet and/or nutritional supplement decisions to improve the overall health and wellbeing of patients. It was created based on Genomind’s expertise in brain health and belief in the importance of the mind-body connection. The results report provides personalized, actionable information that helps patients adjust their lifestyle, habits and activities in order to improve their quality of life. The test analyzes 32 genes in six key areas, or domains, of health: Cognition & Mental Acuity, Cardiometabolic, GI & Immune, Stress & Emotional Wellbeing, Inflammation, and Sleep. For each at-risk gene result, the test report specifies holistic steps patients can take in collaboration with their healthcare provider to achieve better health. Learn more at www.genomind.com
